Permanent eyebrows: Techniques
There are two main and the most popular ways of doing permanent eyebrows:
- Eyebrow feathering, also known as microblading or hair stroke eyebrows
- Eyebrow shading
There are a few other techniques deriving from those two basic ones, and sometimes they are combined together in order to achieve the most satisfying effects. Therefore, people who wish to get permanent eyebrows done, may also choose between:
- bold combo (combination of hair stroke + shading technique)
- soft combo (combination of hair stroke + powdered brows)
Permanent eyebrows: Eyebrow feathering (microblading or hair stroke eyebrows)
Currently this is the most common technique of doing permanent eyebrows therefore it’s pretty easy to find an experienced lingerist who can get you the brows you want. Moreover, eyebrow feathering is considered to deliver the most natural-looking effect because it perfectly imitates the real brow hairs by filling in sparse eyebrows. Those who want to improve their brow shape, give their brows more fullness and cover up bald spots that appear along the brow ridge should consider getting eyebrow feathering done.
This technique, which is hair stroke eyebrows (later called feathered eyebrows), also helps you to achieve natural-looking eyebrows. After this cosmetic procedure, eyebrows become fuller-looking, perfectly defined and slightly darker. In order to apply these type of permanent eyebrows, a special hand tool is required, which in fact resembles a metal pen. It features a sterile precision blade that allows the pigment to be inserted in the epidermis.
How does the application process look? In short, a lingerist uses the hand tool to draw a hair by hair among the hairs that already grow on the brow ridges. The sensation felt during the procedure resembles a needle sting but it isn’t painful. After the procedure, a client should expect their eyebrow skin to be slightly injured – tiny wounds appear that in fact are fast to heal up (up to two, maximally three weeks skin recovers completely).
Permanent eyebrows: Powdered brows
Powdered brows give the effect of thick, fuller and defined arches. With a disposable needle a brow artist injects a pigment into skin. One of the biggest advantages of this cosmetic procedure is the fact that it’s the basic form of permanent eyebrows, which makes it the technique mastered by all lingerists. Powdered eyebrows are recommended to those who count on achieving full and defined brows. Actually, this technique allows to fill in sparse eyebrows pretty well too. It might be said, that thanks to powdered eyebrows technique a lingerist creates a completely new look of brows, which is exceptionally beneficial when a client’s natural eyebrows are barely noticeable.
There’s a separate permanent eyebrow technique to mention that derives from powdered brows technique – ombre eyebrows. Its characteristic feature is color gradation. A brow artist tries to create a kind of transition between a really subtle color (in the start of the brow) to gradually intensify it later (eyebrow end). Such eyebrows look incredibly natural and neat. What’s more, ombre eyebrows technique requires using various shades of one pigment. Thanks to this, a lingerist is able to create color transition, which in turn results in achieving dimensional and natural-looking eyebrows. Actually, there are two ways of applying ombre brows. After analyzing the face and eye shape of the client’s, a lingerist chooses either horizontal or vertical ombre. The former technique is characterized by making the bottom of the eyebrows darker with lighter top. The latter technique leaves eyebrows lighter in the beginning with darker ends.
Permanent eyebrows: Combination techniques
In the search of the perfect shape and look of eyebrows, brow artists came up with the idea of combining some permanent makeup techniques. This allows them to take advantage of chosen techniques and create customized look that suits a particular person only. As mentioned above, combination techniques are commonly known as soft combo and bold combo. Soft combo depends on defining and improving the appearance of brows by making use of hair stroke technique and powdered brows. Bold combo in turn is achieved due to putting the benefits of hair stroke technique and heavy powdered eyebrows together.
